Playing Your Own Videos on Your PSP Console

Playing Your Own Videos on Your PSP Console

By Robert Roderick

If you are an owner of a PSP system then you are more likely than aware of the many functions this device carry out. One feature that is talked about a lot is the PSP's ability to play video whether it be via a UMD disc or direct from the console itself. In this article I will cover what you need to play your favourite videos on your PSP system in less than hour.

Before you embark on your journey to watch your personal videos on your console you will first have to make sure you have a memory card to hand to store the video. Any memory card will do, but it is advised to purchase a card of a descent size to allow you to store more videos at a higher quality. If you look online you will find some great deals on memory sticks for your PSP system, in fact its possible to purchase a 4gb memory card for under $35.00 depending on the retailer at hand.

Ok now you have your memory stick at hand as well as a USB cable and console system at hand we can continue to put videos on the system for your enjoyment. Follow my steps carefully!

Connecting your PSP console to your laptop or PC.

First thing you will need to do is insert your memory stick into the PSP system and perform a memory card format. This prepares the card for use in your PSP and only takes a few minutes. Once completed continue to the next step.

With the console turned off you will need to insert the USB cable into the computer and the other end into the top of your PSP system. Once you have done this turn on your console and head to the settings menu. Once there locate USB connection and activate. Once you have done this you will find your PC will recognise your PSP console as a mass storage device. Locate the PSP folder on your memory card via the PC and you will find 4 sub folders known as photo, save data, music & games. Add another folder named "MP_ROOT", and within this folder add another folder named"100MNV01". This "100MNV01" folder is where you will store your video so make a note.

Once you have created the folders necessary its just a case of dragging your videos in the correct folder as mentioned and you can watch all the video you want.

It must be noted that the PSP can only play Mp4 style videos meaning all videos that you transfer to "100MNV01" have to be of mp4 extension. Fortunately, any video you may have can be converted to mp4 format quickly and easily via software on the net. This software can be found freely by browsing on the web and allows you to even convert your existing DVD collection to mp4 format. Great! What are you waiting for, get converting!
